TEACHING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO
Human Sexuality (SU 2017, FL 2017, SU 2018, FL 2018, SP 2019, FL 2019; FL 2020; SP 2021; SU 2021; SP 2022; SP 2023; SP 2024)
The focus of this course is to explore the biological, developmental, behavioral, emotional, psychological, and cultural aspects of human sexuality. Special attention is given to diverse cultural practices and customs, highlighting the fact that the world of human sexuality is rich in cultural and subcultural diversity.
Gender and Sexuality (FL 2018, SP 2019; SP 2020; SP 2021; SP 2022; SP 2023; SP 2024)
The focus of this course is for students to learn an intimate justice approach to counseling. It discusses gender-queer, non-binary, trans identities, and the diversity of sexualities and genders.
Community Mental Health (SP 2022)
The focus of this course is to introduce students to the concepts and values of community mental health as envisioned by social justice responders and community mental health theory and practice. This class also discusses healing justice as a movement to provide avenues for personal and community mental health and well-being.
Traineeship III, IV, V, VI (SU 2019; SU 2020; SU 2021; SU 2022; SP 2023; SP 2024)
The focus of this course is on case conceptualization of fieldwork experiences and development of clinical skills, specifically assessment, treatment planning, and intervention strategies. Case management and client-centered advocacy strategies, such as accessing community resources, will also be addressed.
Traineeship II (SP 2017)

Traineeship I (FL 2017)
The focus of this course is to help students integrate theory with clinical practice using case presentations and clinical discussions from fieldwork experiences. This course establishes student skill sets for case review and gives the student initial experience in the writing and oral presentation of clinical cases.
Cruzando Fronteras (Immersion Course; Intersession, SU 2018)
The focus of this course is to provide the opportunity for USF students to learn from families in the rural parts of Puebla, particularly with regard to the emotional and psychological impact of being separated from family members by borders.
Counseling Methods (SP 2018)
The focus of this course is to provide an overview of foundational counseling skills and interventions used across theories of counseling and psychotherapy.
Counseling Across Cultures (SP 2017; SP 2018)
The focus of this course is to provide students with an understanding of multicultural theories of counseling with diverse ethnic and racial groups, cultures, social classes, and groups in the U.S. The course focuses on helping students develop cultural sensitivity to one's own cultural value system through cultural self-assessment, and how to utilize this awareness of personal difference and bias to become a culturally humble counselor and therapist.
